Dear Friends:
I have permission to share this with you all. I wrote to Medela and
asked. I asked for details of the reasons why one pump is recommended over another,
and that question was not answered. However, here is what one company says.
"Thank you for contacting Medela, Inc.
The Hospital-grade pumps are recommended for working full-time, premature or
hospitalized baby, low milk supply, sore nipples or engorgement, latch-on
problems, flat or inverted nipples. These pumps can be shared between moms as long
as each mom has her own kit.
The Pump In Style units are designed for frequent use, the pump can be used
more times per day than the baby will be at the breast. This unit can only be
used by one mom, it is not recommended to be shared between moms. For a
Premature or Hospitalized baby Medela recommends that a mom use one of the
Hospital-grade pumps.
For a trip away from the baby, lengthier separation from baby or full time
job Medela recommends either one of the Hospital-grade pumps or a Pump In Style."
warmly,
