I talked with a mother with gastric by-pass that reported she had recurrent mastitis the entire 9 months she breastfed. Her MD speculated that she did not absorb the antibiotic well. Why they didn't go with an IM if that were the case, I am not sure. She contacted us after she had weaned and told us her history, but we not involved during the time she was experiencing problems. She was also admitted to the hospital with severe anemia after weaning and had to have a transfusion. Nutritionally, I think she was a wreak, but unfortunately we were not involved enough to know particulars. I am glad to hear of others that didn't have difficulty.
