We get a *lot* of questions from mothers who have been made at best
confused and at worst worried sick about foremilk and hindmilk. They
have these questions because they (or someone who has been talking to
them) have read poor-quality baby care books or articles in
magazines, or because their healthcare professionals have not
understood the issue.

They think the breast makes 2 different sorts of milk.

They think the second sort is only made/released after a certain
number of minutes - then **KAPOW!!!** the baby gets 'the hindmilk'
and only then, not a second before. So a baby 'has' to be at the
breast for X minutes or he won't manage it.

They think feeds with only a short time between them mean the baby is
'only snacking' and not 'reaching the hindmilk'.

As the thoughtful replies to this question here have shown, the
whole mechanism is beautifully organised, and mothers rarely need to
'engineer' the fat quality of the milk for their babies.
