I'm not a nutrionist but was amazed at the megadosis of all the supplements
this mother was advised to take. I don't know what the health risks are but
I could not help doing a quick calculation of how much fruit one would have
to eat to take in 6grams of vitamin C. I came out at 8.5kg / 19lbs of kiwi
fruit or 10kg / 22lbs of strawberrys or 60kg / 132lbs of bananas! To get to
10mg folate would mean consuming 0.5kg or over 1lb of yeast extract per day.
I know that this is going rapidly off topic but I couldn't help myself. But
I do think these calculations do highlight the fact that such megadosis are
actually well outside the realms of even extreme healthy eating! Normal,
healthy eating is what mothers (in fact everyone) should be doing, right?
As to the beta-carotene, I think Susans post was a wise one and should be
taken seriously. Getting down off high 'skeptical' horse now.
