I have a mom that is totally bfing a 3 mo.old and has red, sore, cracked
nipples and rednessness in breast area. This has been going on 9 days now.
Her gyn gave her a script for antibiotics. She is still having problems.
She is also dealing with engorgment as well because the pain had become so
bad that she stopped nursing and is now totally pumping, but not pumping
often enough, so when she first called and said she had breasts with red
areas that are full and sore I thought infection as well until I asked more
questions. She doesn't, however have any type of fever. She saw her gyn on
either Monday or Friday and she stated that the gyn thoroughly examed her
breasts for an abscess, but couldn't find one. Since she stopped bfing the
cracking has healed some.
She and baby was treated for thrush 6 wks prior and was resolved. No
histories of breast surgery.
Baby is missing bfing and doesn't care for those art. nipples but is
otherwise fine.

I only thoughts are: mom has an allergic reaction to something or some
other skin problem? Any ideas?
