Dear Friends:
    Feeding obturators, that seal a cleft palate, can be useful.
    Whether this mother can find a facility that will make one is another
story. Feeding obturators are not universal practice, unfortunately. I've heard
mothers told that there is no point in making one, because the baby will
outgrow it. (Unlike clothes, diapers, and a cradle......TIC here!)
    They are made from a mold taken of the baby's palate, of the same kind of
material that is used in athlete mouthpieces.
    There is a hospital in Kansas City, Missouri that uses them.
    Check out the local craniofacial team.
