Remember the horrible Remedia tragedy in Israel last year? Two babies
died and several were left permanently brain damaged because the Remedia
soy milk did not contain Vitamin B1………oops!!
Well, I guess this really hit their sales hard, so now they are out on a
very aggressive campaign. Here is a transcript of a phone call to one
of the breastfeeding moms in my forum from a Remedia telemarketer:
I have translated into English what she wrote:
<The telephone rings at home early one morning.
I answer: " Hello."
From the other end: " Hello, my name is So-and-so(?), and I am a
representative of Remedia. I assume that you are already awake at this
hour and I would like to interest you in some of our products for your
baby…"
At this point I interrupted her and said: " First of all, why would
you assume that we are already awake? And secondly, my baby is fully
breastfed."
The Remedia person: " In a house where there is a baby, people do not
sleep late. And allow me to update you: there is a new piece of
research that shows that breastfeeding is not effective after age three
months, and that is where we come into the picture…"
I answer cynically: " Oh, YOU have to enter the picture, of all the
companies? And from where does this research come? The Humana labs ? Is
this research a result of your 'successful' experimentation with
vitamins?"
Remedia Person: " Nothing was proven and we can sue you for slander! And
it is your loss because we wanted to send you a carton full of cans of
our product for you to try."
Me: " NO thanks. I see that your attempt to harm babies continues, but
I will not allow you to do further experiments on MY son. Keep your
carton of formula and your slander suit, and I wish you a very
unpleasant day. "
I then slammed down the phone. >
Now this is a very confident breastfeeding mother, but can you imagine
how such a call might affect a less confident mom, or one who is having
those 3-month questions? The Humana labs is the laboratory in Germany
where the soy formula was made.
