Like others I think which ever sling you to purchase it is important that
the recipient is shown *how* to wear it.
I am small 5'2'', and had a pouch type sling for my first baby 6lb 8oz,
she was too small to fit into the sling until she was 3 months old.  Her
trunck size was to short so it did not fit under the arms at the side.
Neadless to say I was not a huge supporter.  With no2, similar size baby, I
was given a Meh-Tai (pronounced May-tie) from the then Nursing Mothers Assn
of Aust.  This sling is based on *traditional* sling. Very easy to use for
big and small mums with big or small babies.  Basically a cloth square with
padded ties that can be tied in several ways and worn on the front or back.
I use this sling for the subsequent 3 children on the front until the girls
were about 18-22 months and then on the back after that until well after the
2nd birthday.  It is small compact and can be thrown in the washing machine
;-)
Now the Aust. Breastfeeding Assn, formerly Nursing Mothers, have a more
*modern* looking sling for mums that like the ease of clips rather than
ties.  Same idea but with adjustable straps and clips, very very popular.
There is even a cool sling for the hotter climates.
The secret with either sling is to wear your baby high enough so you can
kiss the top of baby's head in your sling. This way the baby's weight is
high enough to not give you unnessesary back ache. Any lower and you start
slumping. Easy for mums to remember too!
