Hi all,
I wanted to share with you 2 new things I have learned from clients in the
past 2 weeks.
1. At the beginning of every day, put out 10 diapers, you will have an
automatic count of diapers in the morning when you replenish the supply!!!
2. Keep a nipple shield in one of those colorful retainer holders that the
kids get from the orthodontist. Easy to find, already has air holes in it and
they are cheap. ( I have 2 clients who are dentists!!).
I know it would be better if we didn't have to use shields at all but I am
of the mind-set to heal the nipples, correct the latch, and keep breastfeeding
going all at the same time with the minimal amount of pain and I have to
admit, nipple shields are often times the answer. So many of the babies I see are
the result of a highly medicated birth, with all the trappings, that often
times the easiest way for mom to suck train their sleepy babies is with a shield,
a tincture of time and lots of TLC.
Enjoy,
Annie VerSteeg IBCLC
