Yea, to list-mother Rachel Myr for encouraging the teaching of hand
expression. I am willing to gamble on the possibility that a study in
the future will find hand expression and cup feeding the optimum
solution for mothers with "insufficient baby syndrome" as well as babies
with insufficient sucking desires. One of the big advantages is that
body parts are more accessible, easier to find and clean and less
expensive than pump parts. Cups -- well, they're going to be used
eventually. Another is that motivation is probably higher when the
message to the mother is that her body is ideally suited for birthing,
feeding, and holding her baby.
Jo-Anne, who has odd pangs when she remembers being stuck in a car at
"pumping time" and hand expressing into a cup next to a baby who was
familiar with most parking lots in town... especially the ones in front
of food stores. :-)
