I haven't handled any commercial business since 1997, but in the 10 years
that I rented pumps, I saw one pump with an insect infestation.  It was a
long term rental (family had had it for over 6 months.)  It came back crusty
with milk all over the outside of the pump casing and even the inside walls
of the plastic carry case (Lactina) were stained with dried milk.  When I
started spraying the pump with Lysol spray to begin the process of trying to
clean it up, a cockroach appeared.  I don't know if it was hiding in the
case, in a vent or hole in the pump itself, but I was concerned that I
wouldn't be able to properly decontaminate the machine.  I decided to ship
it back to the manufacturer for cleaning.
