When discussing how breastfeeding provides immunity I often share
this experience (although I don't always identify it as my own).
When my youngest was just over a year old and still nursing, the 2
older children came down with full-blown cases of chickenpox. The
nursing child wound up with one pock! When I would ask docs whether
this was enough to provide him with lifelong immunity the answer
(even from one of the LLLI Med. Advisors) was, "Well, if he gets it
at some later date, he wasn't immune."!
He never did get it and is now32 years old. The vaccine came out
later than his childhood years so he never got that and I don't know
if he has been exposed to the disease.

Winnie
