 I believe these references were posted on LACTNET earlier this year.....
   " Iron in breastmilk is highly absorbable, and iron supplementation may
interfere with lactoferrin and decrease the antiinfective properties of
breastmilk (Bullen et al: Iron binding proteins in milk and resistance to
escherichia coli infection in infants. Br Med J 1:69-75, 1972).  Iron in
solid foods interferes with the availability of breastmilk iron absorption
(Oski, F. A et al.  Inhibition of iron absorption from human milk by baby
food.  Am J Dis Child 1980; 134; 459-60). "
