We use Synthroid (Levothyroxine or T4) for our infants in the NICU.
Source: 2001 Neofax by Thomas E. Young MD and Barry Mangum, PharmD. (pg.
181)
Dose and Administration: Initial oral dose: 10-14 mcg/Kg per dose
orally every 24 hours.
Dose is adjusted in 12.5 mcg. increments.
Use : Treatment of hypothyroidism
Special Considerations/Preparations : oral suspension is not
commercially available.
(Must be compounded). Mix suspension in a small amount of
sterile water or breast milk.
Use immediately.
This source would indicate that mixing with breast milk would not cause a
problem with absorption.
I don't have a more current Neofax. Does someone else have a newer source?
Hope this helps.
