In line with Jennifer's sling suggestion, I'd like to add that a mom who
hasn't figured out the sling (or isnt' interested in it) can generally
do this very easily in a baby bjorn.
just start with the baby in the normal high up position, loosen the side
adjustors (one side at a time) while gently jiggling so the baby lowers
to nipple level or slightly above. if using right breast, have baby
completely vertical, but slightly off center to the right side (easy to
do b/c it's loosened) with right arm around baby supporting him/her in
the position. left arm slides between mom and baby to lift shirt,
open bra and latch baby. it's a fantastic position for a deep
asymetrical latch.
if mom can feel letdown, i'd have her unlatch baby at that moment, catch
spray, then relatch. she may have to do this multiple times. i'd also
suspect that she can tell/anticipate when baby is going to chomp, her
finger needs to be ready to get the chomp and get baby off before it
happens.
in the absence of other issues, i'd assume he's chomping to slow flow
and would work to teach him to stop nursing momentarily to protect the
airway instead of chomping to protect it. even a tiny baby will learn
this with consistency and awareness on mom's part.
