Dear Friends:
In my capacity as a mother-baby nurse for an agency, I get to see a lot
of good breastfeeding. This is SO refreshing, because many of us don't see
enough of that in our work as breastfeeding helpers.
Today I saw a young woman is living home with her mother and on day 4,
the baby is having yellow, seedy stools, transferred 1.7 ounces in a short time
at breast, and is nearly 2 ounces over discharge weight....in just 2 days at
home.
I love it!
And I really love being able to encourage her and tell her what a great
job she is doing and talk about safe co-sleeping and carrying the baby as much
as she wants (which is a lot) and hope that she breastfeeds exclusively for at
least 6 months and for at least a year or more thereafter. And I really love
seeing her soak up my words and and stare at her new baby with such love and
fascination.
I wish it could be like this most of the time.
warmly,
