Oh, what a grandmother's nightmare!
As I read along I was thinking submucosal cleft. It either feels like a
U-shaped defect in the soft palate, or I have felt some that seem more like
a sharp, thin "V". The uvula may look fine, but if it is bifid, that is
very strong evidence there is a submucosal cleft. Has she tried a nipple
shield? It often does not help, but is worth trying.
So sorry-
Kathy Leeper, MD, IBCLC
