Hello, wise ones!
I had an interesting question today regarding unusual symptoms that occur at
lactogenesis II. This is a mother of a 4yo, 3yo, 2yo and 4 day old, who has
bf each of them and had the same symptoms each time. I haven't heard of
anything quite this drastic, any thoughts? Here are her own words:
Have you heard of anyone else who gets a fever (which lasts only an hour or
so) and
convulsing chills (lasting 6-12 hours) when their milk comes fully in?
I've had this with EVERY baby and no one knows what to do for me. With
#2, dh even took me to the hospital and I didn't have an infection. With
#3, he was in the NICU and the nurses flipped out when the symptoms hit.
The lactation consultant tried to tell me I had mastitis, but with no
real fever (it was gone soon after it hit), that couldn't be it. It's
horrible. My breasts get painful shooting chills, I convulse with each
wave of chills that hits my body, and I can't function at all until it
passes. My mom calls it "milk fever" but looking that up, it either
refers to animals or mastitis. I know it's not mastitis because my ducts
aren't clogged, it resolves on its own, and it happens at the exact same
point in every postpartum period. I knew I was about at that point
tonight, so I took Motrin before bed only to wake up to it a anyway. NO
ONE I know has this or has ever heard of it. Likely by the time you read
this, it will be gone, but I still want to know why this happens to me.
TIA!
Thanks so much!
