The usual arguments *for* water are: to check for Tracheo-esophageal fistula
and to treat/prevent hypoglycemia. \
The argument against water and for bf: TE fistula generally will be obvious
at birth due to secretions and breathing issues. Breastmilk would not be any
more harmful than the water if aspirated. (not good to aspirate any of it,
really). and Feeding the baby colostrum (breastfeeding w/i 30 min) will
prevent hypoglycemia; also skin to skin (no mother baby separation, and ad
lib feeding). I believe Ruth Lawrence's text addresses this water issue
well.
