Hi, everyone. I seem to keep hitting my head against the wall once again.
Here is the problem; one of the ped. md told mom to feed her baby a bottle of
formula before going home to make sure baby will urinate one more time before
discharge - on day 2 - baby's last void was 5:30 pm the evening before; it
was 9am day of d/c home. baby had already voided 4 times. It was reinforced to
staff & md this is normal. However it was dismissed.
Now today an engorged mom who was bf very well was told to pump & store milk
at home. Her nb was being retained because the bili was 16.2 and baby was
being treated under the lights. when I saw mom she was upset & I told her, after
calling the nursery, to go over & bf her baby. She came back tearful & said
baby was fed a bottle already & was told again to pump & bring her milk home. I
then called the md & he repeated what he wanted, which was to formula feed 40
ml q3h! He totally disregarded my question to clarify his order inspite of
the laxitive effects of breastmilk.
What can I do to end this ongoing problem????
Sorry this is such a long question.
