Dear All:
I just thought I'd let you know that there is a new baby book, just
published by one of our trendy pediatricians here in Manhattan. His office
was written up in the NY Times magazine for its innovative design. The
basic philosophy of his book is "Hakuna Matata" - no worries. Essentially
worries are something that are in mother's heads and may harm the baby.
You can solve everything by not worrying. Beyond this simplistic
philosophy, he completely trashes lactation consultants - there is a whole
section devoted to how useless we are. Dr. Sears is on his bad list, too.
Anyway, the section on lactation consultants is so damaging, I'm wondering
if this is something that should be taken to ILCA to look at in a more
serious light, since it is clearly spreading misinformation about lactation
consultants.
Best, Susan E. Burger, MHS, PhD, IBCLC
