Thanks Jan Ellen for giving us the correct terminology. I just looked it
up on google. (Amazing what I got when I misspelled it as taurus
palatinus!!)

This came from the Thomas book (he is considered the father of oral
pathology.)

<The torus is considered to be a developmental anomaly, although it does
not present until adult life and often will continue to grow slowly
throughout life. . . . . . . . .these lesions are not present until the
late teen and early adult years, and many, if not most, continue to
slowly enlarge over time. Fewer than 3% occur in children. Taken as a
group, these lesions are found in at least 3% of adults and are more
common in females than in males. . . . . . . .A definite hereditary
basis, usually autosomal dominant, has been established for some cases of
tori and Asians, especially Koreans, have a much higher prevalence rate
than do other racial groups.>

This question was originally posted by someone who said this condition
was being diagnosed in a newborn infant and being blamed for nipple
trauma. Given the above information, it makes one wonder who was making
the diagnosis and how, and whether it might be wise to get a second
opinion from a specialist.

Just musing.
