I am helping a mom who chose to come to our pediatric practice when her baby
was 9 days old. His weight was down 12 0z. Mom had considerable nursing pain
as the baby's tongue is not forward enough over the gum line. No short
frenulum noted. She saw one Lactation consultant / nurse practitioner who said this
was a problem of absence of reflex and did not believe he could improve with
suck training. He is now gaining with as sns system. The LC NP said he would
outgrow it by 5-6 weeks. What is anyone else's experience with this type of
suck? Thanks. Jennifer RN LE
