Nestec, S.A. (Nestle South Africa) has a patent application for adiponectin
(protein in human milk and blood that reduces risk of obesity). Leptin another
protein made in the human mammary gland that regulates body fat is patented
by the Nemours Foundation (think its genetically engineered--but patent based
on human milk research).
Just think about the monetary value of an obesity drug---which is the reason
for the research. Human milk research creates some great economic
opportunities. Too bad that mothers who donate their milk, don't get a share in the
profits.
