Afrin (oxymetazoline) should be OK, but would not be a the nasal spray
decongestant of first choice for a breastfeeding mother. It is long acting
and theoretically could have more of longer term of affect in possibly
drying up milk production. A decongestant alternative would be the shorter
acting phenylephrine (e.g., 4-Way Fast Acting Spray, Neosynephrine Mild and
Regular Spray, St. Joseph Nasal Decongestant, Alconephrine, Nostril, Vicks
Sinex).
Other non-decongestant sprays would include:
Afrin Moisturizing Saline Mist
Afrin Spray Mist with Eucalyptol and Menthol
Afrin Allergy Spray
4-Way Moisturizing Mist
HuMist Saline
Nasal Moist Solution
Ocean Nasal Mist
Salinex Nasal Mist
Vicks Vaposteam
This list is not all inclusive and some products may not be available, but
there should be plenty of choices for a breastfeeding mother.
Hope this helps.
