Judy,
I get nuts about intervention in childbirth as well.  No matter how well
documented the harm is from the "routine" procedures, they are still done
routinely!  Here in New York State it is 'illegal' to perform routine
interventions on laboring women.  Did this reduce the intervention rate?  No!
 Many hospitals just refuse to give out the NYS Dept of Health childbirth book
that states these rights rather than enforce them.  Makes my blood boil.  I
think that women birth best where they feel safe, but who can feel safe with
people doing unpleasant, unphysiological things to her every other minute?
