Hi Zena

my understanding is that it would be better to think of it as "firm-breast" milk and "soft-breast" milk rather than fore milk and hind milk.

i.e. when the breast is soft, the fat globules are able to ooze out into the alveoli along with the milk that is being made.

When the breast is filling and becoming firm with backed-up milk or milk produced between feedings then the fat globules cannot escape out into the alveoli and the milk is low in fat. As the baby nurses, that breast softens so then the fat globules are released out into the milk and the baby starts to get the higher fat feeding.

If you have a baby going through a growth spurt and nursing so often that the breasts don't get a chance to fill then he is most likely getting all high fat milk. The terms "hind" milk and "fore" milk no longer make sense because with a baby nursing so often it's hard to tell when one feeding begins or when it ends.

Subject: foremilk/hindmilk info.

at the clc conference that I attended last spring. There was info. about
there not being such things as hindmilk or foremilk. I am just trying to
understand this better. Any comments or sites with this information?
My main question is "what about foremilk inbalance, then?"

TIA,
