    Excellent point about asking about pacifier use in slow gaining baby.
    The case study that illustrated this link so well is published in
Breastfeeding Review, about 2 years ago. The  baby was gaining very, very well, until
the mother was told at a visit to start using a pacifier because the newborn
was 'nursing too much'. The weight gain then plummeted, because baby was going
from an average of 14 feeds a day to an average of 9 feeds a day.
    When the pacifier was stopped, the baby resumed the previous weight gain
trajectory.
