I also wonder whether this baby really had reflux. In my practice of pediatrics I find many babies diagnosed with reflux who really have trouble handling mother's strong let downs. The symptoms are similar and if one does not observe a feeding they might be confused with each other. Doctors may not do any tests to diagnose gastroesophageal reflux and often just diagnose reflux "clinically". Zantac is then tried to see if it works. If the timing is right the mother's overactive milk ejection reflex may have dialed down some and the Zantac seems to be working so the child is just continued on the medication until they "grow out of the reflux" which they never really had.
