I also don't get it- I wonder if the punch line is that the healthcare
community is shoving breastfeeing down peoples throat since the big baloons
almost look like eyes- some people are saying that...
I have a 20 y/o mom who has a 1 y/o who was born preterm- b/c she had a severe
case of gastro and went into labor- I think she said that after he was born
she was still sick so she didn't breastfeed him- he's been on strick Q 4 hr
schedule since then b/c he was used to that in the NICU he's had no ear
infections or URI's since! and no sequellae from being preterm (very lucky)
now mom is preg. I asked her if she would like to BF- yes she wants to try- we
made prenatal consult apt- she just called to cancel- "she decided she's not
going to BF" How should I address this? My husband says just let it go
otherwise I'll lose her as a pt- I've already lost 2 families b/c I pushed too
hard- I was thinking of giving her this handout (I think from Dianne
Weissenger?) on "If you only breastfeed for 1 day etc...) the next time I see
her with her son- Its hard for many people to grasp the concept of "risk
factors" especially when they've experienced otherwise! They think "it doesn't
apply to me"
