I am a bit behind in posts but wanted to comment on your 'bike' analogy. I
often use this line too ;-)
Don't forget that each baby is like learning to ride a different bike --
perhaps a different brand, one with a different gearing mechanism, different kind
of brakes. The handlebars, height or weight of the bike may be different. For
those who already know how to ride a bike, there may be some minor
readjustments and then off you go. If the new bike is very different from the old, it may
be as challenging as learning to balance and ride in the first place. (I
don't recall it being all that difficult to learn to ride my one-speed,
pedal-brake two-wheeler as a young child. It was much more challenging to adapt to a
10-speed, hand-brake model. But, of course, with my 24-speed hybrid I now attempt
hills and all kinds of road conditions I couldn't have considered with
earlier bikes.)

Then there are the mothers of multiple-birth infants who are learning to ride
or adapt their riding with two, three, four or more different bikes at once...

Karen
