Michelle,
You mention the difficulties large mothers face with nursing pillows
that are too high and not large enough in the waist area. I carry in my office
a wonderful pillow made by Boston Billows. It is filled with beads and is
very flexible. I can wrap it around a larger woman, a smaller woman just a few
days postpartum who still has a larger "mama-belly", or a small woman, and it
fits around all with ease and with no kink in the middle. I can shove it
together to make it "taller" to bring a small baby up to the correct level for a
mother who is long in the body and/or has "perky" breasts, and I can smash it
flatter for a larger baby, a shorter mother, or a mother whose breasts hang
low. Although I have a variety of pillows in my office to fit a variety of sizes
of mothers, since I got this brand I hardly ever use anything else. And I
have not sold a different brand in a couple of years, though I still have a
little stock of others.
This same company also offers a breast sling (they call it a Breast
Billow) that ties behind the neck and will support a large breast once the bra
flap has been lowered for feeding, and will take the weight of the breast off
mom's wrist and/or baby's chin.
I don't own any stock in this company, so if you buy them to sell to
your own clients, or direct mothers to this brand, I won't make any money off
of the sales (unless the mother you direct happens to live in the St. Louis,
Missouri, USA area and comes to my office to make her purchase). If you want
contact info for the company, please e-mail me privately.
