Joyce's posted about reading about an athlete who's wife had AIDS and passed
it to their child. I think she may have been thinking about the family of
actor Paul Micheal Glaser ("Starsky & Hutch" TV show).

In the 1980s Glaser's life was torn apart by the most appalling of
tragedies. As the result of a contaminated blood transfusion, his wife
Elizabeth and their two children were infected with the HIV virus, and in
1988, their daughter Ariel died at age seven. Subsequently, Paul and
Elizabeth became the most adamant, tireless, and omnipresent AIDS awareness
activists in any profession. In 1988 the two helped found the Pediatric AIDS
Foundation. Sadly, Elizabeth died in December of 1994.

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation was co-founded in 1988 by
Elizabeth Glaser, Susan DeLaurentis and Susie Zeegen. The three friends were
compelled to take action after Elizabeth and her husband, Paul, discovered
that she, their daughter Ariel and son Jake were all HIV-infected.

"The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS foundation is the leading national
non-profit organization dedicated to identifying, funding and conducting
pediatric HIV/AIDS research. The Foundation's goals include reducing HIV
transmission from an HIV-infected mother to her newborn, prolonging and
improving the lives of children living with HIV, eliminating HIV in infected
children and promoting awareness and compassion about HIV/AIDS."

Perhaps this Foundation might have some helpful information for this
situation.
