Dear Laurie, I have two things on my mind about your physician situatation. First, the word will get around to the mothers. It may take a year, but it will get around. I hear all the time from mothers who are pregnant that they hear XYZ about a hospital regarding the lack of breastfeeding help, and boy are they correct! These are pg moms calling me ahead of time because they know they will need bf help outside of the hospital from the stories their friends tell them. Secondly, especially if this doctor takes medicaid, consider discussing this with your local or state WIC BF Coordinator. My boss at WIC will write official letters to doctors telling them how they are wrong and offering training materials. My WIC agency would be highly upset if our participants were denied needed help from the IBCLC during the hospital stay.
