Subject: MD's with poor practices
For what it is worth, I would report this physician to the medical board and
any other organization I could think of. Chris
The state medical board doesn' t care unless he is giving out narcotics,
performing surgery while drunk, or by direct negligence kills someone (long term
outcome doesn't count). The AAP has no authority to force care changes, they
only recommend. Many pediatricians are not members of the AAP anyway.
Every hospital has a medical staff board and most have a pediatric
supervisory committee and an OB supervisory committee to oversee quality issues. I
believe JCAHO mandates some M&M committee to oversee quality of medical care. I
would start with your hospital "Peds Sup" committee. When I see poor care, I
try to educate. When that fails, I report it to our Peds Supervisory Committee.
They review the case and send letters out. Enough letters and you are
removed from the hospital staff.
There is also a Chief of Peds and Chief of OB in every hospital. Is there
not ONE peds or OB (they have more power) who is sympathetic to your cause?
