I also was a GS, Brownie and Daisy Leader for many of the years I was
nursing...also president of the Parent Teacher Organization - and Chairman of the
Annual Cookie Sale. (I was the drop site for a semi truck full of cookies at my
house and the troops had to come to me to get them. Since it was my "turf" who
could say I couldn't nurse her! I got wise after two years of that and got a
community room for the pick up.) I never apologized for nursing my baby or
toddler, just "did it" and occasionally got a look or comment (this was the late
70's and early 80's). I have had several of each of my three daughters friends
as patients after delivery in the last few years and most of them breastfed.
Sometimes they did say that seeing me do it made it seem so "normal." In this
day and age, we have to have laws to protect us...My philosophy in a situation
like this is "tis easier to ask for forgiveness than permission."
