As I understand it, the fact that Domperidone isn't available
generally in the US is the choice of the manufacturer. The cost of
getting FDA approval would not likely be offset by the money the
company would anticipate making on the med. Supposedly someone gave
it by the wrong route (IV instead of as a shot) with serious results
so they have to meet an even higher standard than other drugs. (But,
of course, formula never needs such scrutiny!) The mistake was when
it was used for its original purpose which, like Reglan, is for
certain gastric problems.
It is available through US pharmacies that can compound it, so it
certainly isn't illegal. Legality of obtaining meds from pharmacies
outside the US is a big issue now that the government has agreed to
cover a pittance of costs for senior citizens, but in return they
can no longer take bus trips to Canada to get them (with
prescritption from a reputable pharmcay) at lower cost. Getting
further into this aspect of the topic would be way OT, so I'll stop
there.
If nothing else, Good Houskeeping at least needs to be set straight
on AAP approval of meds for nursing moms. Surely there can be no
controversy there!

Winnie
