Evelyn,
Using a good scale *made* for assessing intake, like the Medela Baby Weigh
scale (no financial interest in this product) which can tell you down to .1
oz how much was taken in, and records it, seems a good choice.
A baby who is recovering from heart surgery will have better oxygenation,
less resp and cardio brady and taci problems, better suck-swallow-breathe
rhythm, and probably less recovery problems if given human milk DIRECTLY
from the breast. See Paula Meirers ect for documentation to present to the
surgeon about this. There is a wealth of info about heart health and
breastfeeding.
This type of scale (even if the hospital doesn't have one and she has to
rent from an outside source) is at least as accurate as looking at a bottle
to assess intake.
Good luck, I hope this child does well.
