Hi Nathalie (fellow South American :-) ):
We do recommend freezing milk in ice cube trays at home for healthy babies.
We suggest mothers use hard plastic trays, boil them before the first use
and then just wash them in hot soapy water. Once the milk is frozen, the
mother can transfer the cubes to another vessel (even a regular freezer bag
or any freezer-appropriate container). The tray can be covered with plastic
film (don't know the right word in English, sorry!) but it is not a must.
It has worked well for many years for us. I have done it, and have not
noticed any problem with the milk once defrosted.
We also have the problem of freezer bags being very expensive here, and
only high income women can afford them.
I would appreciate if anybody has any documented reason to discourage this
practice to please let me know.
Thanks. Regards,
Veronica Garea
