Hi, Ann: I would have this mom run not walk to the nearest peds therapy
clinic. Sounds to me like she needs a complete eval. from PT, OT and
speech. I would be very concerned about the huge developmental delays I'm
picking up from your post. Very disturbing that she is slow to meet
virtually all her developmental milestones, beside just feeding ones. I'm
also wondering why the ped is sitting on this baby. He doesn't see a
problem with this baby's developmental history? Have the mom push, hard,
for a referral. Can you call ped to discuss your concerns? I would also
encourage her to seek a 2nd opinion. I certainly agree with your feeding
recommendations. I saw a mom this morning in the hospital who was told by
her ped with her 1st baby that she wasn't producing enough milk. The baby
was consistently gaining almost 1#/week! She ended up nursing only 6
months because of this off-the-wall advice from her ped. The peds
rationale for his statement? The baby wanted to nurse every 1 1/2-2 hrs!
Where are these guys' minds?
Good luck with this disturbing situation.
