As I recall, it wasn't the light itself that was considered healing,
but the mild warmth that came from the light bulb when positioned
close to the skin.  Same thing when we used to shine a strong light
on a mom's perineum to facilitate healing-it was the heat that was
considered helpful, not the light.  A light bulb may be safer than
heat lamps which might be too warm and carry some risk of burning
the sensitive tissue.

Now, I could be wrong, what to the rest of you "seasoned" LCs
remember?
