Pam was gathering information on breastfeeding with disabilities -- a
category encompassing women with very different practical needs. A
search on the LLLI website would bring up LEAVEN articles, conference
speakers, and mothers' stories on such particular circumstances as:
mothers who are deaf or hard of hearing

visually impaired:

dealing with arthritis and fibromyalgia and other muscular weakness

a more general article of women with various chronic illnesses fitting
breastfeeding into their lives:

The index for the Center for Breastfeeding Information would also bring
up journal references for specific physical/mental problems

It might be reassuring to a disabled mother to know that most of her
questions and worries are shared by all mothers, so she needs the same
basic information and support. In becoming a mother, many of us
suddenly found that we had common ground with women who might be
different from us in many other ways -- very mind-expanding. I bet
women who are dealing with added difficulties would find that an
especially empowering feeling.
