It *could* be latch if the baby is accustomed to having his chin slightly
tucked.  That would put more pressure on from upper teeth, less from lower
jaw.

But it could also be a sharp edge.  My kids always left tooth marks, but
they didn't hurt any more than resting fingertips on one's arm hurt,
although the nails leave marks.  With one exception:

One of my toddlers was good at chipping his front teeth.  A chipped baby
tooth (and even an occasional unchipped baby tooth) can have an edge like a
razor.  A bit of sandpaper or an emery board takes care of it in just a
couple seconds.  Those teeth may be sharp, but they're *very* easy to file.
