Hi Winnie,
Sorry, have been out of town, and did not see your reply that the shield
did not work either with this baby. Perhaps some pacifier tug of war
with a cyllindrical teat pacifier will help this baby groove the tongue
more, which counteracts the tongue thrust. Fingerfeeding can be very
helpful as well, with the parent instructed to gently press the nail
side of the finger against the tongue when the posterior tongue presses
upward forcefully ("humps") . If the hospital has an occupational or
speech therapist who works on feeding skills, he or she might be able to
help too.
