I received an email help question that I need some immediate assistance with. A G3P3 mom has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, a rare type of cancer. She is going to be induced at 36 weeks, which is this coming Monday, January 26th. She thinks that she may need to have a C/section.
Four days after delivery she will begin receiving localized electron radiation to her left neck and upper chest five times a week for six weeks. If the cancer does not respond she will begin a different type of treatment. At this point, chemotherapy is not planned. She would like to breastfeed her new baby. Any information you may have that I could share with her over this weekend would be helpful. Thank you.
Ann Calandro, RNC, IBCLC
