There are two important issues in this case: babies are not happy and
not stooling, so they need more milk. And mom is not being properly
stimulated. She would be better off pumping more, nursing less until
her twins are strong enough to maintain the milk supply on their own.
Galactogogues might be a good idea. Since she has a lot of help, how
about letting her do breast with sns both babies together when she is up
to that, and pump and bottle feed as much as the babies need when they
are not eating efficiently.
I would not care to measure how much each baby takes if it means that
she can't bf simultaneously. SHe can use 2 lact-aids if one really
wanted to know each baby's supplement intake...the soft plastic bag
means two will fit comfortably one atop the other on her chest.
I would show her infant swallowing, and recommend she bf only as long as
babies are swallowing, then stop and pump and let someone else bottle
feed while she gets to the bathroom or puts something in her mouth.
I don't think that poly-vi-sol is a good "supplement" either. The major
needs in rapidly growing premies are minerals, not vitamins.
