I second Carol Chamblin's concerns about antibacterial soap use in the
home. Triclosan based products are not effective on skin (they need to
stay there for 20 mins to kill bacteria), yet they persist on surfaces
and probably provide selective pressure on bacteria that might increase
resistance to related antibiotics, including pennicillins. Triclosan is
also showing up in breast milk among mothers who use these products.
I make sure to educate the moms I see about this issue.
