Greater Miami Valley Breastfeeding Coalition
November 25, 2003
Honorable Tommy G. Thompson
Secretary
Department of Health and Human Services
200 Independence Avenue SW
Washington DC 20201
Dear Secretary Thompson:
The Greater Miami Valley Breastfeeding Coalition (Dayton, Ohio and vicinity)
supports the National Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign to be launched
shortly by the Department of Health and Services.
Specifically, we support the principle of informed consent, including
discussing the consequences of not breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is normal
and desirable. Providing clear, unambiguous information of risks of
non-human foods to the human infant is a core principle of informed consent.
Parents have the right to know the full consequences of health care
decisions.
We enthusiastically support the Ad Council's research and approach, and urge
the campaign's release on schedule and unaltered.
.
Sincerely,
Linda J. Smith
Corresponding Secretary
