Darillyn asks:

<Has anyone found any better ways to use it? I have also thought that
the
Medela finger feeder looks like it would work better at the breast than
the
Starter SNS. Has anyone tried it?>

By chance, I had a mom who already had one when she came home from the
hsopital. I found the dad tended to be very agressive with the finger,
keeping the baby awake and sucking without natural breaks/breathing
spaces. Part of my advice was the temporary use of a nipple shield, to
help get the baby back to the breast, and during the process, I found
that the finger feeder with the tube inside the nipple area, was a very
easy way to administer a bolus when desired, without the baby having
steady access to the flow of milk simply by suction.

While I have not closely examined the "innards" of the SNS, or the
Lact-aid for that matter, I have heard it said that they are "fiddly"
things for the mom to have to mess with. The Hazelbaker FF did seem quite
simple, though it has been a long time since I looked at it or questioned
the ease in cleaning. I appreciated your post on this.

Dee suggested I have this mom "shut off" the flow till desired. but what
she is using is simply Dr. Jack's advised set-up, a $5 #5 french tube
(purchased sterile from my vet) suspended through the rubber nipple into
a bottle of supplement. I suppose she could pinch it off till the baby
has a chance to nurse vigorously before allowing the supplement to flow.
