I must admit that I'm rather in agreement with their initial reply
saying that one should be mindful, at social gatherings, of the comfort
level of others. I would go so far as to say it would seem considerate
to breastfeed in such situations, modestly and not "let it all hang
out". I don't think it furthers our cause to be "in your face" about
breastfeeding, we just don't need to hide in bathrooms any more to do
it. I will admit, though, that my 17 year old daughter's generation is
much more "let it all hang out" in general than even her older sisters'
age group! So, this may just be artifact of a changing culture being
played out among breastfeeding mothers, and not a "militant mommy
brigade". I also have to admit that, while I didn't take offense to
their original response, I most certainly did to their reply! "Militant
mommy brigade" is hate language and had no place in their reply. It
only serves to widen the gap and polarize the "sides" further! That is
what I'd write a letter about!
